Ahead of the WEX Global Bioeconomy Summit, we asked our speakers to share their perspectives on the opportunities, challenges and innovations shaping the global bioeconomy.
The water sector faces major challenges due to climate change, scarce resources and increasing demands for sustainability. At the same time, the latest processes enable us to recover valuable resources from wastewater. We are therefore at a strategic juncture where we can now shape the future of the entire sector.
From 2029, Germany will be required to recycle phosphorus from sewage sludge. Phosphorus is a critical raw material that we currently import in large quantities from countries such as Russia or Marocco. Wastewater and sewage sludge incineration plants therefore offer us an opportunity to reduce our reliance on imports and protect our soils and water resources with green phosphorus.
I’m looking forward to meeting like-minded people who, like us, want to drive forward the sustainable transformation of the industry. That mindset unites us all in our commitment to an industry that makes our environment a little bit better every day.
